Weekend Travels: Sheperdstown

Saturday was supposed to be gorgeous, so we hopped in the car and went to Shepherdstown & Antietam.

We spent most of the day (that wasn’t spent in the car) walking around Antietam, but we did stroll around downtown Shepherdstown. And ate two very good meals there.

Didn’t take my camera out much around Shepherdstown, except for the cemeteries.

There were two cemeteries across the street from each other. The Reformed Cemetery and the Lutheran Cemetery. In both cemeteries the graves of Revolutionary War soldiers had been marked (in later years, not at the time.)

The Reform Cemetery, which is right next to the Reform Church, is fairly well maintained and kept.

The Lutheran Cemetery directly across the street is in terrible shape. Embarrassingly bad shape, really. Many stones were knocked over and broken, and several are slowly being lost to the woods behind the cemetery.
