Random (but not really)

27 March

Today’s deaths:

William F Buckley Jr.

But of local interest, Myron Cope has died at the age of 72.

I may not have liked his voice but I liked him for what he did. And fans for tonight’s Pitt game are requested to bring Terrible Towels to remember Cope.

That’s too bad about WFB Jr. I didn’t much agree with him, but he was smart, articulate, and his ideas were (usually) defensible.

  2. John the Scientist Says:

Oh no. Scratch my back with a rusty hacksaw and beat me like a rented mule. Elvis has left the building. RIP Myron.

And the ‘Burgh accent is what you get when you mix Polish with Scotts-Irish, which is why it bears so much resemblance to Chicagoese.

Whew! No one commented on this and I was really beginning to feel provincal.

And it wasn’t the accent–it was the nasal qualities of his voice that rubbed me the wrong way.

But he really was a good person, which is what’s important. He gave the rights to the Terrible Towel to a local school for special needs children. That’s pretty awesome.
