    Awesome!

    Perfect!

I was annoyed this morning. There was a non-handicapped car parked in one of the handicapped spots, leaking over into the next one. Hello? Those spots are like half again the size of a regular parking spot.

OMG Natalie, that irks me so much when a car with no handicapped plates/tags parks in a handicapped spot. There’s one guy at lodge that parks in the one handicapped spot every god damned time and he has no plates/tags and no reason to park in that spot. Grrrrr!

If I see that happen the cops get an immediate call. Here it’s a VERY large fine if you get caught. But I like xkd’s solution as well :-)

    Oh, how I love xkcd.

Cars with no handicapped placard/license plate parking in a handicapped spot? Those folks are lucky I don’t just punch ‘em, instead of calling the cops on them. I’ve gotten into several heated verbal battles with lazy drivers, including the driver of a semi who blocked every fucking handicapped spot at a Smart and Final. I don’t care if the semis take up other spots – they have a job to do and sometimes the store isn’t set up well. But do not block the handicapped spots. Just. Don’t.

(Sorry, it’s personal. I’ve had a number of handicapped people in my life and it pisses me off to no end when I see this.)

My best handicapped parking story: We (Brandi’s family and I) went to a movie. It was very busy, snowing, Christmas season and the theater was so crowded there were police directing traffic. The driver pulled up to the curb to let a bunch of us out, including Brandi’s dad. The officer rushed over and she’s shouting at us “you can’t park here” “you can’t stop here” “keep moving” etc. Brandi’s dad got out of the car and nonchalantly (sp?) snapped out his cane so that it went from folded to full cane. She shut up before the cane hit the ground.

When my mom lived in the area, we used to joke that the only reason I drove her anywhere was so that I could get all the good parking spaces (she’s got a handicapped placard because she can’t walk far, but she doesn’t drive).

I am very popular at Christmas time. “Natalie, do you want to go to the mall?” “Umm, no.” “Please….” It turns out that the car in question did have a handicapped placard. I emailed to the HR person who deals with that sort of stuff. Apparently one of the employees got a new car and forgot her placard this morning. Good thing I didn’t key the car. O.o

Just to make it clear, we have a handicapped tag for Grandmom. Often I’ll drop her off at the door, and then park the car in the nearest spot.

Some of the time she’ll manage to walk to the car, but sometimes not.

I will use the tag when we’re out with her though, so she doesn’t have to stand at the door and wait for me to get the car.

Otherwise I park at the far end of the lot, usually near a cart return. 1) I can easily put the car away. 2) I get extra steps. 3) Usually no one is parked around me so it’s easy to find the car. :)
