Vacation cont – Blennerhasset Island

Since it was supposed to rain, we decided to go to Blennerhasset Island instead of Blackwater Falls.

This had the added advantage of taking us to Parkersburg so we also got to spend time with Julliene. (OK, and Brian & Stacie as well.)

It didn’t rain at all, and was instead gorgeous.

The house itself burned down and was rebuilt, however, there were several original items of furniture in the house–items that had been auctioned after the Blennerhassets were accused of treason. (That Aaron Burr was nothing but trouble.)

Although many of the original items from the house are gone, the house contains period pieces or reconstructions of such.

Sadly, since we couldn’t go completely into the rooms, there is no perspective to show you precisely how small the beds were.

However, the most fascinating room (as Jeri agreed) was the kitchen.

This is the sink. No, really. There would have been a pipe that went outside, and although it’s not particularly impressive, it would have been quite the luxury item back then.

And those colors? Actually historical paint colors. Yes, they were available only to the very rich, but those are likely the colors that would have been in the house.

Pretty shocking.
