Weekend Travels: Ohiopyle PA

Saturday we went to Ohiopyle State Park (in Pennsylvania) and stopped by Fort Necessity.

For some reason I’d never been to Ohiopyle before, and I have no idea why.

I have memories of going to Fort Necessity in 2nd or 3rd grade; it was even smaller than I remembered, and my memory was of thinking, “this is it?”

Ft. Necessity is very small, in a very large field. When we went there was one park ranger who was a Native American. He had tattoo cuffs. His interpretation of the battle was very unique. I spent a long time talking with him. But yeah, a very small fort that launched a very big war.

Is there camping at Ohiopyle? I think that’s where we (Rachel, me and a friend from Bethlehem) camped when we went to Fallingwater. The waterfall reminds me of Hocking HIlls in SE Ohio – maybe similar geology.
