{"id":1152,"date":"2005-12-24T09:23:13","date_gmt":"2005-12-24T16:23:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/archives\/1152"},"modified":"2005-12-24T09:23:13","modified_gmt":"2005-12-24T16:23:13","slug":"christmas-eve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/archives\/1152","title":{"rendered":"Christmas Eve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house<br \/>\nNot a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.<br \/>\nThe stockings were hung by the chimney with care,<br \/>\nIn hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.<\/p>\n<p>The children were nestled, all snug in their beds.<br \/>\nWhile visions of sugarplums danced in their heads.<br \/>\nAnd Ma in her kerchief, and I in my cap,<br \/>\nHad just settled down for a long winter&#8217;s nap.<\/p>\n<p>When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,<br \/>\nI sprang from my bed to see what was the matter!<br \/>\nAway to the window, I flew like a flash,<br \/>\nTore open the shutter and threw up the sash!<\/p>\n<p>The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow,<br \/>\nGave a luster of mid-day to objects below.<br \/>\nWhen what to my wandering eyes should appear<br \/>\nBut a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer,<br \/>\nWith a little old driver so lively and quick,<br \/>\nI knew in a moment, it must be St. Nick!<\/p>\n<p>More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,<br \/>\nAnd he whistled and shouted and called them by name:<br \/>\n&#8220;Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen!<br \/>\nOn Comet! On Cupid! On, Donner and Blitzen!<br \/>\nTo the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!<br \/>\nNow, dash away, dash away! Dash away all!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,<br \/>\nWhen they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,<br \/>\nSo up to the housetop, the coursers they flew,<br \/>\nWith a sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too!<\/p>\n<p>And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof,<br \/>\nThe prancing and pawing of each little hoof.<br \/>\nAs I drew in my head and was turning around,<br \/>\nDown the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound!<\/p>\n<p>He was dressed all in fur from his head to his foot,<br \/>\nAnd his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot!<br \/>\nA bundle of toys he had flung on his back,<br \/>\nAnd he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.<\/p>\n<p>His eyes how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!<br \/>\nHis cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry.<br \/>\nHis droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,<br \/>\nAnd the beard on his chin was a white as the snow.<\/p>\n<p>The stump of a pipe he held tight in this teeth.<br \/>\nAnd the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.<br \/>\nHe had a broad face and a little round belly<br \/>\nThat shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.<\/p>\n<p>He was chubby and plump &#8212; A right jolly old elf,<br \/>\nAnd I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.<br \/>\nA wink of his eye and a twist of his head<br \/>\nSoon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.<\/p>\n<p>He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,<br \/>\nAnd filled all the stockings then turned with a jerk,<br \/>\nAnd laying his finger aside of his nose,<br \/>\nAnd giving a nod &#8212; Up the chimney he rose!<\/p>\n<p>He sprang to his sleigh to his team gave a whistle,<br \/>\nAnd away they all flew like the down of a thistle.<br \/>\nBut I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight:<br \/>\n&#8220;Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
