Thursday, we hiked Dolly Sods, which ended up being far less pleasant that it sounds, because 1) it rained for about 3\/4 of the hike 2) it&#8217;s been raining for most of May and 3) about 2\/3 of the way through our hike, the trail went through a swamp. And it&#8217;s been raining a lot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Location<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/mnf\/recarea\/?recid=12366\">Dolly Sods National Wilderness Area<\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Trails<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/Internet\/FSE_DOCUMENTS\/stelprdb5152038.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Blackbird Knob Trail, Upper Red Creek Trail, Dobbin Grade Trail (swamp), Beaver Dam Trail<\/a>, and then Forest Road 75 back to the Blackbird Knob Trailhead)<br \/>\n<strong>Distance<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/dolly-sods.html\" target=\"_blank\">6.7 miles<\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Elevation<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/dolly-sods-elevation.png\">838 feet<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is what part of the non-swamp portion of the trail&#8211;the Upper Red Creek Trail&#8211;looked like:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/random_michelle\/14254781151\" title=\"20140522_Dolly_Sods_008 by Michelle Klishis, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3729\/14254781151_b343578d01_z.jpg?resize=640%2C427&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" alt=\"20140522_Dolly_Sods_008\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s another view of the Upper Red Creek Trail area. Yes, it was raining. And raining.
