{"id":13412,"date":"2017-06-17T20:58:11","date_gmt":"2017-06-18T00:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/?p=13412"},"modified":"2017-06-17T20:58:11","modified_gmt":"2017-06-18T00:58:11","slug":"hiking-wv-north-bend-state-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/archives\/13412","title":{"rendered":"Hiking WV: North Bend State Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every other place I&#8217;ve been, a trail named &#8220;Nature Trail&#8221; is about a quarter of a mile long, extremely flat (if not paved) and frequently has interpretive signs.<\/p>\n<p>This was not your average nature trail.<\/p>\n<p>Location: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northbendsp.com\/\">North Bend State Park<\/a><br \/>\nTrail: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northbendsp.com\/NorthBendStateParkMap.pdf\">Nature Trail<\/a><br \/>\nDistance: 4.3 miles<br \/>\nElevation: <a href=\"https:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/North-Bend-Elevation.png\">708-1183 feet (875 feet total  ascent)<\/a><br \/>\nTemperature: 79-85 F<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not saying this was anything like last week&#8217;s trail with a 24% grade. Just that this was a 4 mile trail that had significant elevation gain (although with switchbacks, not straight up!). This trail went through the entire park, which means that most of it was quiet and peaceful, except for the bits that went through the campground, near the swimming pool, and along the picnic area. Those parts were loud and populated. But for a loop it was an easy price to pay.<\/p>\n<p>At the top of the trail, we saw the remains of a very old fence.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/random_michelle\/34528171664\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"20170617_North_Bend_001\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4257\/34528171664_3aa74a024d_z.jpg?resize=360%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"360\" height=\"640\" alt=\"20170617_North_Bend_001\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>These original state park trail signs are getting rarer.
