That means that even if we don’t visit tropical hot spots or any place any otherhuman would find to be a nice vacation spot, we will go out of our way to get good food.

First meal was takeout from Kibbie’s the restaurant that I can find without help, and although it’s known for its shrimp salad, has very good crabcakes. We ordered crabcake sandwiches (on crackers) and although Grandmom and I ordered baked potatoes instead of fries, we somehow ended up with both. Fries were pretty good (that’s the thing about French fries, if they’re there, the are eaten, even if you don’t really want them. Insidious things.) We figured out that we ended up with the backfin instead of the lump crabcakes, but they were still good, and the excellent start to our vacation.

In DC, we went to a place called Legal Sea Food (I figure that if you’re by the ocean you may as well take advantage of the fact and eat seafood.) I did restrain myself and not order crabcakes, although I did get baked shrimp stuffed with crabmeat. Very good meal. I ordered their New England Clam Chowder, which is their specialty item, and it was delicious, but everything with the meal was excellent. As my side I ordered sugar snap peas in oyster sauce that we’re so good I could have gotten them as an entrée. We were tempted to order dessert, but the food was so good, and there was so much of it, that we most likely would have exploded had we ordered dessert. They are supposed to have a restaurant in Baltimore, so we may try and take Grandmom there sometime. The bill wasn’t too bad either–$100 for four people, which I thought was a fantastic deal for how good the food was.

Today’s meal of the day was a trip to G & M’s. Sitting in the cooler in the backseat I have the second crabcake from my two-crabcake dinner. So despite missing the trip to Lombard street to take home corned beef for my parents, it wasn’t a complete loss, since I get to have a crabcake for lunch tomorrow. And the crabcakes at G & M’s were just as good as last time. They’re supposed to be some of the best in the area, and I believe it, although I have to say that neither the salad nor the vegetable were that great. So go for the crabcakes, they’re worth every penny, but expect an iceberg lettuce salad and ho-hum vegetables.

But as I went for the crabcakes, which were as delicious as I remember, I wasn’t too upset by this.

Because of the early departure we didn’t make the trip to Altman’s on Lombard/Pratt to pick up corned beef to take home to my parents, but as they didn’t know we were planning on bringing it home for them, I suppose they won’t be disappointed. Thing about Jewish corned beef from Altman’s is that it is one of the few foods that makes me regret that I don’t eat mammals. If I ever decide to start eating all eats again, the first time I’m going to do (after I’ve started eating meat and made myself sick as a dog) is to go to Altman’s and get a huge sandwich. Funny how although it’s been about 15 years since I last ate meat, I can still remember how corned beef sandwiches taste. The way they smelled, their texture of the corned beef and the rye bread.

But for now, I’ll content myself with Baltimore’s seafood.

It’s vacation time.
