{"id":14280,"date":"2018-04-17T08:00:15","date_gmt":"2018-04-17T12:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/?p=14280"},"modified":"2018-04-17T19:15:13","modified_gmt":"2018-04-17T23:15:13","slug":"hiking-wv-blackwater-canyon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/archives\/14280","title":{"rendered":"Hiking WV: Blackwater Canyon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You would think that a trail called the Canyon Rim Trail would have lots of views of the Blackwater Canyon.<\/p>\n<p>You would be mistaken.<\/p>\n<p>That doesn&#8217;t make this a bad trail, and there are views at either end: the Olsen Fire Tower at the Western end, and along the Allegheny Trail at the Eastern terminus.<\/p>\n<p>The trail itself is part of the Allegheny Trail, which you can take through WV. It also means this trail is getting some extensive maintenance right now, to shore up sections that have become muddy messes.<\/p>\n<p>Location: Monongahela National Forest<br \/>\nTrail: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saveblackwater.org\/documents\/trailbrochurelegalsmall.pdf\">Canyon Rim Trail<\/a><br \/>\nDistance: 6.6 miles (out and back)<br \/>\nElevation: 3162-3705 feet (994 feet gain)<\/p>\n<p>Along the trail, this is as good a view as you get. And once the leaves are out, it&#8217;ll be even less.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/random_michelle\/41479195011\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"20180414_Canyon_Rim_Trail_021\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/884\/41479195011_8e71ed50d5_z.jpg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" alt=\"20180414_Canyon_Rim_Trail_021\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/p>\n<p>It was a little steep in a couple of places, and rocky and muddy in other places, but it isn&#8217;t a difficult hike for anyone who is in shape.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/random_michelle\/27607427118\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"20180414_Canyon_Rim_Trail_071\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/871\/27607427118_2361a61bf0_z.jpg?resize=360%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"360\" height=\"640\" alt=\"20180414_Canyon_Rim_Trail_071\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>You get to cross several streams, one of which has a &#8220;Stone Bridge&#8221;.
