Which is fine, since variety is good! And I am keeping up on some fantasy series, several even as pre-orders (although I realize that both of <a href=\"http:\/\/klishis.com\/Books\/authors\/hunter_faith.php\">Faith Hunter<\/a>\u2019s 2019 books went unrated, because a LOT happened. I probably won\u2019t be able to rate them until a re-read, when I\u2019ve had more time to digest all the events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fantasy, Supernatural<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/klishis.com\/reading\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Lies-Sleeping.jpg\" width=\"187\" height=\"301\" alt=\"Lies Sleeping\" align=\"right\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/klishis.com\/reading\/archives\/11345\"><em>Lies Sleeping<\/em><\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/klishis.com\/Books\/authors\/aaronovitch_ben.php\">Ben Aaronovitch<\/a> (8\/10) is a Rivers of London novella that is outside the Peter Grant timeline. It\u2019s set in Germany, and we get to see Germany\u2019s equivalent of the Folly, and an apprentice magician there.<\/p>\n<p>Spoiler: this apprentice is nothing like Peter.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve avoided reading reviews of recent books in this series, because it\u2019s taking him a long time to come out with a new Peter Grant story. If the comics and novellas like this are ways of him dealing with writer\u2019s block or being unsure how to go forward with Peter, I am fine with that. I\u2019d rather have a good Peter Grant book that takes a couple years, than something crappy he puts out under pressure.<br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2XxA0yJ\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klishis.com\/reading\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Storm-Cursed.jpg?resize=199%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a<a href=\"http:\/\/klishis.com\/reading\/archives\/11938\"><em>Storm Cursed<\/em><\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/klishis.com\/Books\/authors\/briggsp.php\">Patricia Briggs<\/a> (8\/10) is the 12<sup>th<\/sup> (or 11<sup>th<\/sup> if you don\u2019t count the anthology) Mercy Thompson book. The repercussions of claiming the Tri-Cities are as under pack protection are still rolling out, but it\u2019s not all bad, because the pack can often deal with problems that might lead to regular law enforcement officers getting killed. <\/p>\n<p>One of the things I especially enjoyed is that we get a little bit of Wulfe, who is a true chaotic neutral character. I\u2019d hate him in person, but he\u2019s wonderful to read about.<br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klishis.com\/reading\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/The-Phoenix-Illusion.jpg?resize=188%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"188\" height=\"300\" align=\"right\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/klishis.com\/reading\/archives\/11342\"><em>The Phoenix Illusion<\/em><\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/klishis.com\/Books\/authors\/shearin_lisa.php\">Lisa Shearin<\/a> (8\/10) is the 6<sup>th<\/sup> SPI Files book, and Lisa Shearin switched to self-publishing here. A couple years ago this might have been a concern, but she clearly still has editors, so the book is just as good as the previous ones.<\/p>\n<p>I adore Mac.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As much as I wanted to be as badass as my coworkers, I\u2019d come to accept that it simply wasn\u2019t gonna happen, but that didn\u2019t stop me from training and trying. It was the least I could do for the people who had to work with me.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2WAqwoS\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klishis.com\/reading\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Fright-Court.jpg?resize=200%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/klishis.com\/reading\/archives\/11917\"><em>Fright Court<\/em><\/a> by Mindy Klasky (8\/10) is the first book in her Magical Washington, but unfortunately, as much as I liked this story, the rest of the series\u2014and her parallel series\u2014both fell flat for me. Luckily, you can read this book without having to read the rest of the series, so if you\u2019d like a fun supernatural mystery, this is good as a stand-alone.<br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/archives\/15281\">The Books of 2019<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In years past, I read more fantasy than any other genre, but this year fantasy books are coming in a distance third.
