Unfortunately, for all it&#8217;s age and history, the tree is becoming a danger not just to the building, but also to people who walk around this busy part of campus.<\/p>\n<p>So as much as I don&#8217;t want to see the sycamore go, it&#8217;s better to take it down safely, than for one of these branches to fall.<\/p>\n<p>And on a positive note, <a href=\"https:\/\/enews.wvu.edu\/articles\/2020\/03\/09\/video-five-historic-campus-trees-slated-for-removal-to-promote-pedestrian-and-campus-safety\">the wood from these trees is going to the Davis College to be used to make things, which is a lovely use<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And FWIW, here is the stump of one of the two trees that has already come down.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/random_michelle\/49705187456\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"20200327_120719\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/49705187456_55de4969e7.jpg?resize=500%2C243&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"500\" height=\"243\" alt=\"20200327_120719\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Again, if you click through you can zoom in and see the amount of rotted wood at the core.<\/p>\n<p>So, hopefully this won&#8217;t many anyone feel better necessarily about the trees having to come down, but to understand why it is necessary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you weren&#8217;t aware, the sycamore in front of EMoore hall is scheduled to be taken down, along with several other historical trees on campus.
