Position a rack in the lower third of the oven.<\/p>\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/random_michelle\/2812110747\/\" title=\"Bittersweet_Brownies_0004 by Random Michelle K, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3117\/2812110747_075d7917dd.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"Bittersweet_Brownies_0004\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>6 Tbsp unsalted butter<br \/>\n3 oz unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped<br \/>\n3 oz semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped<br \/>\n1 cup sugar<br \/>\n1\/4 tsp salt<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bd tsp vanilla extract<br \/>\n2 large eggs<br \/>\n1\/4 cup all purpose flour<br \/>\n2\/3 cup walnut or pecan pieces<br \/>\n8-inch square pan, lined across the bottom and up the sides with parchment paper.<br \/>\n<br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/random_michelle\/2812957712\/\" title=\"Bittersweet_Brownies_0003 by Random Michelle K, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3046\/2812957712_07c22ce7a9.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"Bittersweet_Brownies_0003\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>Melt butter and chocolate in the top of a double broiler. Stir frequently until the mixture is melted and smooth. <\/p>\n<p>Remove the top of the double broiler from the heat. Stir in the sugar, salt and vanilla. Add the eggs, one at a time, stirring until each is incorporated before adding the next.<br \/>\n<br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/random_michelle\/2812105719\/\" title=\"Bittersweet_Brownies_0002 by Random Michelle K, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3286\/2812105719_e145366c58.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"Bittersweet_Brownies_0002\" align=\"right\"  \/><\/a>Stir in the flour and beat with a wooden spoon until the batter is smooth and glossy and comes away from the sides of the pan\u00e2\u20ac\u201cabout 1 minute. Stir in the nuts.<br \/>\n<br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/random_michelle\/2812951144\/\" title=\"Bittersweet_Brownies_0001 by Random Michelle K, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3161\/2812951144_56cf34d5df.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"Bittersweet_Brownies_0001\" align=\"right\"  \/><\/a>Pour into 8&#215;8 pan. Bake 34, or until the brownies just begin to pull away from the sides of the pan. Do NOT overbake these brownies. They should be gooey. That&#8217;s why they&#8217;re so good.<br \/>\n<br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/random_michelle\/2812965432\/\" title=\"Bittersweet_Brownies_0006 by Random Michelle K, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3133\/2812965432_ccf4021e91.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"Bittersweet_Brownies_0006\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a><\/a>Cool on a rack for at least 1 hour before removing form the pan. Lift the parchment or foil ends to transfer the brownies to a cutting board.
