{"id":9296,"date":"2012-05-28T08:52:37","date_gmt":"2012-05-28T12:52:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/?p=9296"},"modified":"2012-05-28T08:52:37","modified_gmt":"2012-05-28T12:52:37","slug":"memorial-day-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klishis.com\/notreally\/archives\/9296","title":{"rendered":"Memorial Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are no living veterans of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/vets\/stories\/ex-war-wwi.html\">WWI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Every day, hundreds of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wwiimemorial.com\/\">WWII<\/a> veterans die.<\/p>\n<p>Many of those who served in WWII, also served in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/kowa\/index.htm\">Korean War<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The relationship between Americans and its veterans changed, during the <a href=\"http:\/\/thewall-usa.com\/\">Vietnam War<\/a>. Many of those who served have now reached the age of retirement.<\/p>\n<p>For many Americans today, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/pages\/frontline\/gulf\/\">the Gulf War<\/a> is the first war they remember. Many mistakenly believed this heralded a sea change in the way wars would be fought in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve years in, we are <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/WN\/Afghanistan\/\">still fighting in Afghanistan<\/a>, and our <a href=\"http:\/\/icasualties.org\/oef\/\">soldiers continue to die there<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/SPECIALS\/2003\/iraq\/\">War in Iraq<\/a> officially ended, but men and women are still serving there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/SPECIALS\/war.casualties\/\">Casualties of the combined Iraq and Afghanistan wars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aframnews.com\/html\/interspire\/articles\/116\/1\/Doris-Miller-Pearl-Harbor-Hero\/Page1.html\">Doris Miller, hero of the attack on Pearl Harbor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The radio program <a href=\"http:\/\/snapjudgment.org\/gi\">Snap Judgement has a program on soldiers this year<\/a>. I highly recommend listening to it.<\/p>\n<p>But above all, my love and thanks to all those who have served, and to those who continue to serve in the military.
