\"\"<\/a>This might well be my favorite book of the series, partially because Anton and Svetka are happily married and that relationship is a strength, and partially because the events are so unexpected.<\/p>\n

Plus, of course, it’s a delight.<\/p>\n

\u201cSvetka,\u201d I said, sitting back down again. And suddenly I tensed up\u2014 Svetlana\u2019s voice sounded uneasy, anxious. \u201cSvetka, has something happened to Nadya?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cEverything\u2019s fine,\u201d she replied quickly. \u201cDon\u2019t worry. Why don\u2019t you tell me how you\u2019ve been getting on?\u201d <\/p>\n

I thought for a few seconds. I hadn\u2019t held any drinking parties, I hadn\u2019t brought any women back home, I wasn\u2019t drowning in garbage, I\u2019d even been washing the dishes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And there is the bit with the WWII flyer, that delights me every time I read it. <\/p>\n

And the bit of the two kids and the witch.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre we going to turn into little goats when we\u2019ve drunk our tea?\u201d Romka suddenly asked. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhy?\u201d the witch asked in surprise. <\/p>\n

\u201cBecause you\u2019ll put a spell on us,\u201d Romka explained. \u201cYou\u2019ll turn us into little goats and eat us up.\u201d He clearly did not trust the mysterious rescuer completely yet.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I do so love this book–and this series.<\/p>\n
