Defending Angels<\/em> (2008) Mary Stanton<\/a><\/p>\n

\"defending_angels\"<\/a>Brianna Winston-Beaufort has inherited her uncle’s clients after he died in a terrible fire in his law office. As she attempts to find a temporary office, she starts to discover that strange things are occurring, and her uncle’s clients might be far more unusual than first expected.<\/p>\n

It’s very—cute. I somehow missed that this is a cozy, so coming off of Kathy Reichs, this was a bit of a U-turn in what I’ve been reading.<\/p>\n

This isn’t to say it’s a bad story or bad writing, it’s just very light and kinda fluffy, and even includes wise and adorable dog.<\/p>\n

This is also quite obviously the start of a series.<\/p>\n

The mystery arc is solved within the covers of the book, but lots and lots of question about what Bree and her companions can do were asked and never answered. It wasn’t a problem per se, I just found it a tad bit heavy handed.<\/p>\n

Don’t get me wrong, there were good points to the series–I really liked the mythological aspects (even if I took issues with the portrayal of Metatron [Metatron is the voice of God, not a demon]) and the mystery itself was interesting. I think Grandmom may enjoy this book. As for me, it was interesting, but I’m not going to go out of my way to continue the series.
