He always said Ronan differently from other words. As if he had meant to say another word entirely \u2014 something like knife or poison or revenge \u2014 and then swapped it out for Ronan\u2019s name at the last moment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>In a dismissive, sleepy voice, Adam said, \u201cI don\u2019t know why you think that would work out. Pig\u2019s got a load of five people \u2014\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNoah doesn\u2019t count,\u201d Ronan replied. <\/p>\n<p>Noah said, \u201cHey.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re dead. You don\u2019t weigh anything!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSo what you\u2019re saying is you can\u2019t explain it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did explain it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, you used nouns and verbs together in a pleasing but illogical format.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did explain it,\u201d Ronan insisted.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Blue turned it slowly to read each side: hyacinthus, celea. One side was blank. <\/p>\n<p>Gansey pointed to each side for her. \u201cLatin, Coptic, Sanskrit, something we don\u2019t know, and \u2026 this is supposed to be Greek. Isn\u2019t that funny that it\u2019s blank?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Derisively, Ronan said, \u201cNo. The ancient Greeks didn\u2019t have a word for blue.\u201d Everyone at the table looked at him. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat the hell, Ronan?\u201d said Adam. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to imagine,\u201d Gansey mused, \u201chow this evidently successful classical education never seems to make it into your school papers.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey never ask the right questions,\u201d Ronan replied. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This passage brings me to one of the reasons I am thoroughly enjoying these books in audio. There are three teen boys having a conversation above, and in the narration it is obvious who is speaking even without the &#8220;X said&#8221; bits. Each boy has a unique voice that sounds precisely as it should, just as each of the three psychics at Fox Way have a unique voice (although Orla and Jimi are a little more problematic, it still works extremely well.)<\/p>\n<p>One of the other things I especially like in this book is Gansey&#8217;s family. They may be ridiculously wealthy, but they love him and his parents trust him. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Richard Gansey II broke in. Although he didn\u2019t know Adam well, his concern ran deep and genuine. Adam was his son\u2019s friend, and so he had inherent worth.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Adam was his son&#8217;s friend, and so he had inherent worth.<\/p>\n<p>That is such a lovely lovely sentence.<\/p>\n<p>And the same goes for Blue&#8217;s family.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>After a moment, Maura asked, \u201cAre you crying?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly a little.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeneralized sadness.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you sad?
