I do love this series.<\/p>\n

He handed me a card that was still warm from a lamination machine. In Dr. Walid\u2019s neat, all-capitalized handwriting, it said, \u201cWarning: I have been stupid enough to stick myself with etorphine hydrochloride,\u201d and listed the procedures the paramedics were to follow; most of them concerned resuscitation and heroic measures to maintain heartbeat and respiration.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cAnd what am I?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cToo easily distracted.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI am not.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cNew Year\u2019s Eve, Trafalgar Square, big crowd, bunch of total wankers pissing in the fountain\u2014remember that?\u201d asked Leslie. \u201cWheels come off, wankers get stroppy and what were you doing?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI was only gone for a couple of seconds,\u201d I said. \u201c<\/p>\n

You were checking what was written on the lion\u2019s bum,\u201d said Leslie. \u201cI was wrestling a couple of drunken chavs and you were doing historical research.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cDo you want to know what was on the lion\u2019s bum?\u201d I asked. <\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d said Leslie. \u201cI don\u2019t want to know what was written on the lion\u2019s bum, or how siphoning works or why one side of Floral Street is a hundred years older than the other side.\u201d \u201cYou don\u2019t think any of that\u2019s interesting?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Eliza Doolittle, as played by Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady, would have bought her violets there before moving off to display the worst cockney accent this side of Dick Van Dyke.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
