Lady Georgiana is returning to society, then years after she was ruined. She doesn’t hide her daughter, but she cannot stand the censure society heaps upon her child.<\/p>\n

Fathers\u2019 sins never seemed to stick. It was the mother who bore the heavy weight of ruin in these situations. The mother who passed it on to the child, as though there were not two involved in the act.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Luckily, she has her friends to rely upon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve seen you in a dress. This is . . .\u201d Temple paused, taking in the ensemble. He coughed a laugh. \u201cNot like any dress I\u2019ve ever seen you wear.\u201d He paused, considering her further. \u201cYou\u2019ve feathers exploding from your hair.\u201d <\/p>\n

Georgiana gritted her teeth. \u201cI\u2019m told it\u2019s the height of fashion.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cYou look ridiculous.\u201d <\/p>\n

As though she didn\u2019t know it. As though she didn\u2019t feel it. \u201cYour charm knows no bounds.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Christ,\u201d said Duncan. <\/p>\n

\u201cAre you drunk?\u201d asked Temple. <\/p>\n

She put her fingers to her lips. \u201cIt\u2019s possible.\u201d <\/p>\n

The men looked at each other, then back to her. \u201cHow in hell are you drunk?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI imagine it happened when I consumed too much alcohol,\u201d she said smartly.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I also very much like Caroline, Georgiana’s daughter.<\/p>\n

Georgiana said, \u201cYou are too intelligent for your own good.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d Caroline said thoughtfully. \u201cI am too intelligent for your own good.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She’s smart and funny without being overly precocious.<\/p>\n

It’s a satisfying conclusion to the series, even if at times some parts felt a little too pat.<\/p>\n
