Somebody Killed His Editor<\/a><\/em> (2009) Josh Lanyon<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Christopher Holmes is–to put it mildly–self-absorbed. He’s a mystery author on a down-slide, trying to recover his career. He’s also trying to get over his husband running off with another man. The last thing he wants is to spend a weekend at a writing conference but his agent insists this is what he needs to try and recover his career.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the perfect opportunity to try something new,\u201d she urged. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to try anything new.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWell, you should. You\u2019re a thirty-something-year-old man writing about a seventy-year-old spinster and her cat. That cannot be healthy.\u201d <\/p>\n

I was so flattered that Rachel thought I was still in my thirties that I didn\u2019t put up half the fight I should have.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It’s even worse when Christopher discovers that JX is also at the conference. Christopher had a fling with JX years ago, and they’ve been at odds ever since. The fact that JX’s career is going strong probably isn’t helping.<\/p>\n

There’s one bit that particularly struck me on this re-read.<\/p>\n

I felt increasingly trapped and desperate. It was silly because I was doing exactly what I\u2019d have done by choice. It was the knowledge that I didn\u2019t have a choice. That I couldn\u2019t leave.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That’s something that is anxiety inducing for me, and one of the reasons I live in a place where I can walk to get to places. <\/p>\n

This was a re-read because I really wasn’t sure what it was I wanted to read.<\/p>\n
