The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant<\/em> (2014) Drew Hayes<\/a><\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>I’ve read quite a few new releases recently, so I’ve been interspersing them with books I really liked and wanted to re-read. Hence, returning to The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I recorded my journeys in the hopes that, should another being find themselves utterly depressed at the humdrum personality still saddling their supernatural frame, they might find solace in knowing they are not the only one to have felt that way.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Fred is completely unlike your typical vampire.<\/p>\n

I was more than a minor klutz in my human days, so it was an enjoyable change to walk around without injuring myself.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But that makes him all the more delightful, since he continues to think mostly as he did before he was turned.<\/p>\n

I loaded my leather suitcase into the back of my gray hybrid. I had always tried to be eco-conscious, but realizing that I could actually live to be affected by eventual environmental disasters had doubled my efforts.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

No. Really. Utterly delightful.<\/p>\n

Being a vampire grants you many things. A sudden burst of intuition and confidence with the opposite sex sitting directly on top of you is sadly not one of them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But really, everything about this is wonderful.<\/p>\n

His eyes became huge as his face elongated. His body shifted, and a small popping sound registered to my ears as his clothes unsnapped. It seemed everything he wore was designed to snap off without tearing when he turned. I suppose that would be something of a must for a shape-shifter on a budget.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I mean, how come no other shifters think about that? Sure all ripped clothes might sound sexy, but as another book put it, they don’t rip in sexy places usually. <\/p>\n

Anyway, these are five stories–short novella lengths–that tell of a different event in Fred’s life–starting with his going to his tenth high school reunion.<\/p>\n

One of the things I really like about this series is how well Fred is written. He wears glasses (that he doesn’t need) and a sweater vest, and he doesn’t curse.<\/p>\n

Let me be clear, there is cursing in this book, it’s just don’t by characters other than Fred. <\/p>\n

It’s a fun book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it the second time through.<\/p>\n
