Lime Gelatin and Other Monsters<\/a><\/em> (2016) Angel Martinez<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Lime<\/a>I started several books and immediately dropped them, so since this series has been in the back of my mind, I decided to re-read, even though it’s been less than a year since I first read it.<\/p>\n

Kyle Monroe was a normal cop until a run in with an unnatural creature put him in the 77th, where even the other officers are edgy around him. When he’s assigned a new partner–with known supernatural issues, his first worry is that Vikash Soren is going to be someone Kyle hates working with. But as they try to discover what manner of being has been killing people along the waterfront, they soon discover a strong compatibility.<\/p>\n

One of the things I love about this story is just how ridiculous everyone’s powers are.<\/p>\n

Shira Lourdes is a stress telekinetic. Shit flies around when she gets jumpy or upset.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Jeff Gatling? Guy with the banana?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cHe does apportation. I could see that.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, but he can only teleport fruit.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cGreg Santos?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cPlease don\u2019t laugh.\u201d <\/p>\n

Now Vikash\u2019s eyebrow shot up. \u201cI\u2019ll try not to.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cGreg hears the unhappiness of waterfowl.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There are others, but I do love the weird specificity of some of those powers.<\/p>\n

Plus, having read the series already, I loved the introduction of the various characters, including one of my favorites.<\/p>\n

Between them, in the chair a suspect would take while he was being booked, was a leather jacket. Not odd if the jacket had behaved normally and stayed draped over a chair arm like a good, proper jacket, but this one was sitting up with the buckled strap on one sleeve cuffed to the chair arm.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Also, foreknowledge makes one of the issues I had with the romance much easier to deal with.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo fraternizing policies?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAre bendable in this weird unit you\u2019ve landed in.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So why did I want to re-read this series? First, because Officer Wolf is my favorite characters, but I didn’t want to re-read just his books, but also because I really love the world-building in this series, and I love the characters and how the grow and change over the course of the series.<\/p>\n

And I adore that both Kyle and Vikash are huge geeks. That’s just the icing on the cake.<\/p>\n
