Joy<\/a> (States of Love)<\/em> (2017) C.S. Poe<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Joy\"<\/a>Gideon Joy is just plain unlucky. <\/p>\n

If it is possible for something in his life to go wrong, it does. Which is why he is depressed but unsurprising when he clips a moose driving through New Hampshire, wrecking his car AND the car of someone else.<\/p>\n

Since he’s been driving across the country to figure out what to do with his life, he doesn’t have the money to repair the other guys truck, so he stays in town to get a job and eventually pay off the repairs on the guys car and then his own.<\/p>\n

This is the sweetest story. <\/p>\n

It’s in a rural, mountainous area where the towns are tiny but the humans are kind.<\/p>\n

It has a cute elderly couple that run a bed and breakfast.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should stay away from Bucker\u2019s,\u201d Bridget answered. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s Bucker\u2019s?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cA bar.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI know how to bartend, though.\u201d <\/p>\n

She made a face. \u201cAh, but the owner isn\u2019t\u2026. There are more accepting folks in town you\u2019d much rather want to work for.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t like flatlanders,\u201d Bernard supplied. <\/p>\n

\u201cOr gays,\u201d Bridget added. <\/p>\n

\u201cHoney,\u201d Bernard murmured. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d she protested. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Amusing citizens and co-workers and the most adorable couple.<\/p>\n

I noticed over his shoulder that several of the other construction guys were watching us with varying levels of interest. That was odd. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo I\u2019m going to leave,\u201d I stated. <\/p>\n

Silas cleared his throat. \u201cThank you for lunch.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cSure.\u201d <\/p>\n

The guys muttered and exchanged a few dollar bills between one another.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So! Cute!<\/p>\n

And, there was no boinking! Which of COURSE I loved even more! But I loved it even before I reached the end and realized there wasn’t boinking.<\/p>\n
