Known Devil<\/a><\/em> (2014) Justin Gustainis<\/a> (Occult Crimes Unit Investigation)<\/p>\n

\"Known<\/a>Alas, the end of the Occult Crimes Unit Investigation series. Just three books, but they’re fun ones.<\/p>\n

Stan and Karl are taking their coffee break when a pair of elves attempt to hold up the diner where they are having their coffee. What makes no sense is that the elves seems strung out, and everyone knows the supes can’t get addicted to drugs.<\/p>\n

Unless everyone is wrong and things have changed.<\/p>\n

What I love best about this series is how goofy it is and how it twists pop culture.<\/p>\n

The book I\u2019d bought was Sematary Danse<\/em>, the new expos\u00e9 of the funeral industry by that true-crime writer, Stephen King.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And really, how could one not love a book that references the short story everyone had to read?<\/p>\n

I was barely halfway out of the crouch when I heard the sound of the shot that killed me. <\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t, of course \u2013 but I was pretty confused for a moment. I even had the crazy thought this was some kind of \u201cOccurrence at Owl Creek Bridge\u201d moment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But mostly, in and around the gruesomeness is some delightful dark humor.<\/p>\n

Cops at crime scenes don\u2019t have<\/em> to park at crazy angles that nobody else would imitate \u2013 we do it because we can<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Really lovely dark humor.<\/p>\n

I said, \u201cLook, I dragged myself out of my bed of pain because it seems like the gang war\u2019s escalating. I want to know what the fuck happened here and why.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cShort version,\u201d Scanlon said. \u201cThe answer to your first question is \u2018car bomb\u2019, and I\u2019m guessing the answer to the second one is \u2018to kill a bunch of folks\u2019.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Plus, the rather realistic life of a supernatural cop, which involves a lot of paperwork and a occasionally ridiculousness.<\/p>\n

A woman living on Kaiser Avenue reported a werewolf prowling around her house. Karl and I didn\u2019t turn up any werewolves, but we did find a guy from the neighborhood \u2013 he could\u2019ve used a haircut and a beard trim, but he was still human \u2013 who liked to peek through windows.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I really do like this series and wish there’d been more books. I’ve read several of his Quincy Morris books, but they just didn’t have that dark humor.<\/p>\n
