An Unsuitable Heir<\/a><\/em> (2017) K.J. Charles<\/a> (Sins of the Cities)<\/p>\n

\"An<\/a>Set in London, 29 November 1873 – January 1874<\/p>\n

This book ends the Sins of the City series, and we finally learn who has been behind the murders, as well as why (although that had been pretty obvious).<\/p>\n

Mark Braglewicz is looking for the heir to an earldom in the hopes to help protect his friends and see justice brought to a murderer. <\/p>\n

What he didn’t expect was to fall for the heir–and all the complications that came with that.<\/p>\n

Cross-dressing wasn\u2019t to everyone\u2019s taste, which probably explained Pen\u2019s wary look. Mark had no problems with it. He knew a fair few men who dressed and talked and sometimes lived as women, and a fair few women who went the other way.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I do like Mark.<\/p>\n

Gone back off home now to bring down the Empire, trzymajmy kciuki<\/em>.\u201d He tipped his glass. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat was that?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cPolish. Means \u2018Let\u2019s keep our fingers crossed.\u2019 ?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cDid you just drink to the fall of the British Empire?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI was brought up in bad ways.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Pen I had a little harder time with, except for his loyalty to his sister. That I got.<\/p>\n

I also realized I’d misremembered the details at the end of the story; I remembered the general outlines but how they happened I’d gotten mixed up. <\/p>\n

The other thing I really liked about this story was Tim, Clem’s cousin.<\/p>\n

\u201cAren\u2019t you happy to be home?\u201d Pen asked. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t my home,\u201d Clem said. \u201cI just grew up here.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIt ought to be a happier house,\u201d Tim said. \u201cIt is beautiful, really.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Oh, there are a LOT of similar sounding names in this story: Pen, Clem, and Tim. Read carefully.<\/p>\n

I quite enjoyed the solution to the mystery–and how the issues were resolved. <\/p>\n
