The Weight of It All<\/a><\/em> (2016) N.R. Walker<\/a><\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>After eight years, Henry Beckett’s left him, because he was too old (35!) and too fat. At first Harry things that he wants to get into shape to get Graham back, but he quickly realizes he wants to make the changes for himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho\u2019s Graham?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d He put his hand up like he was stopping traffic. \u201cYou just<\/em> said, \u2018And that\u2019s why Graham left me.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

Oh shit. Did I? \u201cGraham\u2026 Graham is the new Voldemort. We don\u2019t speak his name out loud anymore.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Which is good because we slowly discover that Graham has stiffled Harry from being who he really is.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone who tried your lemon tart loved it, Henry. It was the perfect excuse for you to talk to the people you work with, and if you\u2019d give them a chance, they\u2019ll love you too.\u201d <\/p>\n

I stared at her. \u201cIs that another compliment? Because we\u2019ve just been through that.\u201d <\/p>\n

She walked to her desk. \u201cYou mispronounced thank you.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And despite the title, and despite the fact Henry starts by going to the gym, the story is really about Henry coming to terms with himself, who he had become, and who he wants to be. <\/p>\n

It’s lovely, and although Henry changes, he doesn’t miraculously become a gorgeous hunk.<\/p>\n

I wasn\u2019t perfect. In fact, I was far from it. But I was taking control of my body, of my mental headspace, and of my life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He just becomes a better version of himself.<\/p>\n
