In fact, I&#8217;m lucky I didn&#8217;t just go back to the beginning and read it all over again.<\/p>\n<p>I love this book SO. MUCH.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(W)hile most of us would say that homeless people are human beings and therefore deserve to be looked after, Dr. Fairclough would argue that homeless people are human beings and, thus, plentiful and ecologically somewhere between insignificant and a net detriment. Unlike dung beetles, which are irreplaceable. What on earth has given you the impression I\u2019m not miserable?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But despite all that, this is the bit that just broke my heart.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Twenty minutes later, the James Royce-Royces appeared, James Royce-Royce with an actual picnic basket. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, Luc.\u201d He gazed around in dismay. \u201cI hadn\u2019t realised it had got this bad. I\u2019m not sure I\u2019ll feel safe eating in here.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople eat in fields,\u201d I pointed out. \u201cLike, places where cows shit. No cows have shit in my flat.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you familiar, sweet pea, with the term \u2018damning with faint praise\u2019?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The reactions of his friends to seeing how bad things had gotten, and how they had missed it just breaks me heart.
