Farscape: Vol 1 The Beginning of the End of the Beginning<\/em> (2009) Rockne S. O’Bannon, Kieth R.A. Decandido, Tommy Patterson<\/p>\n

\"Farscape_1\"<\/a>Michael and I both enjoyed the Farscape TV show (on DVD of course) so when I saw there was a Farscape comic, I decided to check it out.<\/p>\n

To be honest, Michael and I are both still unsure how we feel about this first volume. It was interesting, and the writer did a good job with the feel of the characters. The art was okay, but it wasn’t as good as the characterization; Chiana in particular seemed a little off–I think it was the color. She looks far more black and white in the comic, whereas in the show I felt she was bluish. It wasn’t anything big, it just felt a little off to me is all.<\/p>\n

So. The story. <\/p>\n

After the deaths of so many, everyone now wants to go home–and for Chrichton and Aeryn, they have to find a home. First to head home is Rygel. After contacting one of his wives, he is now plotting a return home and the overthrow of the usurper who stole his throne. <\/p>\n

I thought the story of Rygel’s return home felt very much as it would have happened in the show. And although I liked part of Aeryn’s struggle to deal with motherhood, I was very disappointed in the resolution–it was entirely to simply and trite, and I felt it did a disservice both to Aeryn and the struggle of motherhood in general.<\/p>\n

I also wish we would have spent more time with Pilot, who was always one of my favorite characters.<\/p>\n

Overall, it fit in with the previous Farscape story lines, however, just like those show story lines, it was a bumpy ride.<\/p>\n

If you watched the show, you’ll probably want to check out the comic. <\/p>\n

If you didn’t watch the show, DO NOT START HERE. You totally won’t get any of it.
