{"id":14,"date":"2004-02-13T12:13:12","date_gmt":"2004-02-13T19:13:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/klishis.com\/reading\/?p=14"},"modified":"2021-05-30T21:26:28","modified_gmt":"2021-05-31T01:26:28","slug":"artemis-fowl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klishis.com\/reading\/archives\/14","title":{"rendered":"Artemis Fowl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Artemis Fowl by <a href=\"http:\/\/klishis.com\/Books\/Kids.php\">Eoin Colfer<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another children&#8217;s\/young adult book, and a pretty good one at that, although I didn&#8217;t find it quite as interesting as either Philip Pullman&#8217;s <i>His Dark Materials<\/i> or Garth Nix&#8217;s <i>Sabriel<\/i>. It was still good, and I liked the fact that the protagonist is an antihero. Ostensibly, no good qualities, although the author does managed to sneak some in there.<\/p>\n<p>I particularly liked the way that the author, in the introduction and conclusion, goes out of his way to say what a bad person Artemis Fowl is, and how his actions can be taken in a way that is less altruistic than it may seem on the surface.<\/p>\n<p>I was, however, quite disgusted by the dwarves. I guess Eion Colfer really doesn&#8217;t like dwarves, as he makes them little better than Trolls. I was raised on Tolkein, and this is No Good. Ick.<\/p>\n<p>The characters are good, the story is interesting, and the writing is good.
