Good God, haven\u2019t I been dangling at your shoe-strings ever since I first knew you?\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>\u2018No,\u2019 said Miss Milborne. <\/p>\n<p>The Viscount blinked at her. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018When you first knew me,\u2019 said Miss Milborne, not rancorously, but as one stating a plain truth, \u2018you said all girls were plaguey nuisances, and you called me Foxy, because you said I had foxy-coloured hair.\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So Sherry decides that Miss Hero Wantage will work just as well.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dash it, Hero, I don\u2019t want to talk like a coxcomb, and I dare say I may want for principle, and have libertine propensities, and spend all my time in gaming-hells, besides being the sort of ugly customer no woman of sensibility could stomach, but you can\u2019t pretend that you wouldn\u2019t be far more comfortable with me than at the curst school you keep on prosing about!\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s an interesting story, watching Sherry discover that having control over his finances means having to grow up, and that having a wife is more than just someone waiting at home for him.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2018Lady Sherry,\u2019 said Mr Ringwood obstinately, \u2018would like the balls at the Castle Inn. Like to be presented to the Regent, too. Believe he\u2019s still down there.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Yes, and a pretty time I should have of it, looking after her!\u2019 retorted Sherry scornfully. \u2018You know very well she\u2019s no more fitted to keep the line amongst the set of fellows she\u2019d meet there than a half-fledged chicken!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Very true,\u2019 said Mr Ringwood, nodding wisely. \u2018Better go to Leicestershire. Tell you what: give it out you\u2019ve gone on your honeymoon.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>\u2018That\u2019s a devilish good notion, Gil!\u2019 approved the Viscount. \u2018You\u2019d better come along with us!\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But I think Gil ended up being my favorite character.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Mr Ringwood agreed that this was certainly enough to shake any man\u2019s nerve; but said after a short pause: \u2018You know what I think, Sherry?\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Yes: that she don\u2019t mean any harm,\u2019 replied Sherry. \u2018You\u2019ve said it before \u2013 in fact, you\u2019re always saying it! \u2013 and I know it without your telling me.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>\u2018I wasn\u2019t going to say that,\u2019 said Mr Ringwood. \u2018Going to say, she don\u2019t make the same mistake twice.
