Lysander and Adam have been content, living as a steward and landholder by day and lovers at night.<\/p>\n

Except neither has used that word: Love.<\/p>\n

When both are invited to Lysander’s family home for Christmas (Adam’s brother is married to Lysander’s sister) multiple issues come to head–including the money Adam gave to Lysander’s father to improve the estates.<\/p>\n

As they\u2019d ridden through the village a few minutes earlier, Lysander had seen that the workers\u2019 cottages that should have been repaired were quite as dilapidated as they had been on his last visit, and the new ones that were supposed to be built were nowhere to be seen. <\/p>\n

Shame drenched Lysander. This was his father\u2019s doing, he knew it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There are also sub-plots about Lysander’s sister and their childhood friend and neighbor.<\/p>\n
