\"Thud!\"<\/a>I think this might be one of my favorite Discworld novels.<\/p>\n

Vetinari waved a languid hand. \u2018But full carts congesting the street, Vimes, is a sign of progress,\u2019 he declared. <\/p>\n

\u2018Only in the figurative sense, sir,\u2019 said Vimes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It’s coming up on the anniversary of Koom Valley, and things are getting tense and Anch Morpork.<\/p>\n

Deep down grags have come, and although they refuse to see the light of day, they have plenty of influences on the dwarves.<\/p>\n

It was written in some holy book, apparently, so that made it okay, and probably compulsory.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u2018So how far down does our jurisdiction go, sir?\u2019 said Carrot. <\/p>\n

\u2018What? As far down as we like!\u2019 <\/p>\n

\u2018Er, does it say that anywhere, sir?’<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And the trolls are just as riled up.<\/p>\n

Now the troll looked directly at Vimes. \u2018If it was, I would have foun\u2019 out by now. I bin askin\u2019 questions.\u2019 <\/p>\n

\u2018So are we.\u2019 <\/p>\n

\u2018I bin askin\u2019 questions more louder,\u2019 said the troll. \u2018I get lotsa answers. Sometimes I am gettin\u2019 answers to questions I ain\u2019t even asked yet.\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u2018Certainly we need to talk to you,\u2019 said Carrot. \u2018Do you want a lawyer?\u2019 <\/p>\n

\u2018No, I ate already.\u2019 <\/p>\n

\u2018You eat lawyers?\u2019 said Carrot. <\/p>\n

Brick gave him an empty stare until sufficient brain had been mustered. \u2018What d\u2019y\u2019call dem fings, dey kinda crumble when you eat dem?\u2019 he ventured. <\/p>\n

Carrot looked at Detritus and Angua, to see if there was going to be any help there. <\/p>\n

\u2018Could be lawyers,\u2019 he conceded.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But most of all, there is Young Sam.<\/p>\n

But that was just it. If you could go to five minutes then you\u2019d go to ten, then half an hour, a couple of hours\u00a0.\u00a0.\u00a0. and not see your son all evening. So that was that. Six o\u2019clock, prompt. Every day. Read to Young Sam. No excuses. He\u2019d promised himself that. No excuses<\/em>. No excuses at all. Once you had a good excuse, you opened the door to bad excuses.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And of course Commander Vimes.<\/p>\n

Bashfullsson coughed politely. \u2018I don\u2019t think so, commander. This area is too dangerous to fight in.\u2019 <\/p>\n

\u2018Well, yes, I can see it would be terrible if anyone got hurt,\u2019 said Vimes,<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
