Jericho Candelario’s Gay Debut<\/a><\/em> (2018) R. Cooper<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Jericho<\/a>I needed the softest and fluffiest of escapes, so I turned to this, even though it hadn’t been that long since my last reread.<\/p>\n

Because Jerry is sweet and adorable.<\/p>\n

They always asked for him. Probably because a slender, average-sized man with a low voice was a lot less intimidating than Al or Kristoff, both of whom were over six feet tall, broad, and loud.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He is the squishiest of cinnamon rolls, having spent almost half his life helping his sister care for her unplanned daughter.<\/p>\n

he\u2019d spent years trying to keep everyone together, to pay the bills and ensure Sofia was surrounded by love at all times.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And despite their very quiet disagreements about it, Lincoln understands how important Jerry’s family is to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cAw.\u201d Lincoln smiled in sympathy, in a more playful mood than he had been a second ago. \u201cYou poor thing. But it was bound to happen sooner or later. Kids grow up. Next thing you know, you\u2019ll be driving her to college and she\u2019ll be\u2014 oh no! Jerry, don\u2019t panic. It\u2019s okay. Please don\u2019t make that face.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat face?\u201d Jerry felt a little frozen. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was kidding.\u201d Lincoln leaned closer and spoke soothingly.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There is something about that passage that I adore.<\/p>\n

This story all in Jerry’s POV and most of it is in his mind, which means that we get to delight in just how naive Jericho is.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou brought your toolbox,\u201d Lincoln informed him, as though Jerry didn\u2019t know that, and then mumbled, \u201cCoffee, he says,\u201d and stomped off. He returned a second later. \u201cWhat exactly are you doing?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe door squeaks.\u201d Jerry sprayed each hinge and then opened and closed the door a few times. \u201cYou have to lubricate it to keep things smooth.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIrish coffee,\u201d Lincoln declared vehemently. \u201cI know I have bourbon somewhere in here for bourbon cakes. Or brandy. I definitely have brandy somewhere.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And Lincoln’s reaction to that naivete. <\/p>\n

Or just to Jerry in general.<\/p>\n

Jerry inhaled sharply. He couldn\u2019t begin to think how to show Lincoln how amazing he was. Jerry could level that one wobbly chair in the bakery, refinish all the cabinets, help him choose a coffee machine, and it wouldn\u2019t come close.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Also, I have spent so much time thinking like Jerry does.<\/p>\n

Hoping someone would know so he wouldn\u2019t have to say it was a feeling he was intimately familiar with.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So this is a mental hug I gave myself.<\/p>\n
