And Everything Nice<\/a><\/em> (2020) Ada Maria Soto<\/a><\/p>\n

I really do adore this story.<\/p>\n

He had drawn the short straw and now had to explain to the entire version 5.1 team how a kid they shouldn\u2019t have hired who had already left was going to delay their next release by almost a week.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A lot of this story reminds me of one of my favorite short stories in the Mercy Thompson series. Maybe I’ll reread that as well.<\/p>\n

Over two months Simon had turned down chocolate-chip cookies, red velvet cupcakes, and warm scones of both sweet and savory varieties. He\u2019d also responded to all of Angelo\u2019s requests for early draft documentation, paid attention to him in meetings, complimented his Welcome to Night Vale T-shirts, and joined in conversations about gaming.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Also, I adore the baking.<\/p>\n

The problem was that baking was chemistry. The protein molecules in the eggs bonded with the gluten molecules in the flour. The milk reacted with the baking powder. Switching out one ingredient was doable, but switching out everything but the sugar was a good deal trickier.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The whole thing is lovely and about perfect.<\/p>\n
