Amongst Our Weapons<\/a><\/em>, Audio Edition (2022) Ben Aaronovitch<\/a> narrated by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Rivers of London)<\/p>\n

\"Amongst<\/a>This is the most recent Rivers of London \/ Peter Grant book, and now I’m all caught up and have to find something else to listen to.<\/p>\n

I sped through this when I read it in the spring, so I there were plenty of things I picked up this time around, since I was listening.<\/p>\n

Peter has been training officers to assist Nightingale and the Folly, since Peter is going to be out on paternity leave any minute now.<\/p>\n

There is of course Guleed.<\/p>\n

(B)efore the PC on the passenger side got a chance to ask Guleed why she was loitering while wearing a hijab in a built-up area, the driver leaned forward to get a look at us and recognized me. <\/p>\n

\u201cIs that you, Peter?\u201d she said. \u201cYou on a job?\u201d <\/p>\n

Her name was, I kid you not, Tiffany Walvoord, and she had been part of the emergency response team that helped extricate me from that unfortunate business in Kew. \u201cDon\u2019t worry, Tiff,\u201d I said. \u201cJust a notification and statement.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cPromise?\u201d said Tiffany. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s it,\u201d I said. \u201cIf it gets interesting, do you want me to call you?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d said Tiffany. \u201cI want you to wait half an hour until I\u2019m off shift.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yet they still need other Falcon-capable officers.<\/p>\n

Peter desperately wants to close this current case before he goes on maternity leave, but they aren’t quite certain what to do about and angel of death.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hardly likely to be an actual biblical angel,\u201d he said when I\u2019d finished. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhy not?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIn a world chock-full of murderous blaspheming bastards,\u201d he said, \u201cwhy would an omnipotent and omniscient deity pick a couple of obscure Brits to do away with in such a public manner.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe they did something particularly bad?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cHave you looked at the news recently?\u201d said Postmartin.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In addition to all the Monty Python References (see the title for starters) it is as snarky as ever.<\/p>\n

(A) dozen or more kids were playing amongst the ruins. <\/p>\n

\u201cGod, I hope they\u2019ve had their tetanus jabs,\u201d said Danni as we watched a pair of boys sled down a rubble heap on a piece of rusty corrugated iron. <\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t be such a mitherer,\u201d said Brook. \u201cIf you don\u2019t bloody your knees when you\u2019re a kiddie, what kind of a childhood would that be?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cOne without septicemia?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And of course there are Monty Python references.<\/p>\n

\u201c?\u2018 Arise, O God, judge thy own cause.\u2019 ?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cPsalm 73,\u201d said Postmartin. \u201cThe motto of the Spanish Inquisition.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWell, fuck me,\u201d said Seawoll. \u201cI wasn\u2019t expecting them.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There are still comics coming out, but I don’t know if there will be more books. I hope so, but I don’t want him to write them because he has to, but because he wants to.<\/p>\n
