What is this?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And then I fell in love with Helen Hayes and Miss Marple.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;As far as I can make out,&#8221; said Miss Marple, &#8220;and from what I have heard and read, a man who does a wicked thing like this and gets away with it the first time, is, alas, encouraged. He thinks it\u2019s easy, he thinks he\u2019s clever. And so he repeats it.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I don&#8217;t remember much about watching the show, but I do still love the book.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHe\u2019ll look after the house all right. He\u2019s very house proud. He\u2019s a queer. I mean\u2014\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He had paused, slightly embarrassed\u2014 but surely even dear old Aunt Jane must have heard of queers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Miss Marple is just so so so lovely.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dancing, lights, the music of a band (even a steel band), all that surely was for youth. But where was <em>youth<\/em>? Studying, she supposed, at universities, or doing a job\u2014 with a fortnight\u2019s holiday a year. A place like this was too far away and too expensive. This gay and carefree life was all for the thirties and the forties\u2014 and the old men who were trying to live up (or down) to their young wives. It seemed, somehow, a <em>pity<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I realize, too, that Mr. Rafiel is privileged, or thinks he is.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What do you mean\u2014 privileged?&#8221; asked Mr. Rafiel. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To be rude if you want to be rude,&#8221; said Miss Marple. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Have I been rude?&#8221; said Mr. Rafiel, surprised. &#8220;I\u2019m sorry if I\u2019ve offended you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You haven\u2019t offended me,&#8221; said Miss Marple, &#8220;I make allowances.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now, don\u2019t be nasty.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Publisher: William Morrow<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rating: 9\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Caribbean Mystery (1964) Agatha Christie (Miss Marple) The story that started my love of Miss Marple.
