Dovid followed along with his cane. <\/p>\n

But he kept bumping into chairs. The tables were very close together, and it was hard to navigate with a cane. And a wheelchair certainly would have an even harder time. Bernice was walking pretty fast too. Dovid found himself trying to hurry up to follow her, and he actually bumped into a chair\u2014 with someone sitting on it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

talking on the phone gave him enough anxiety as it was. Never knowing whether a call might turn nasty made him dread it every time he was given a ring.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

(I)n reality I\u2019m a vegetarian. I don\u2019t mind if other people aren\u2019t of course, it\u2019s not my job to regulate, but it\u2019s my own difference I\u2019m making, yeah? I\u2019m a gentle soul, really. I can\u2019t even squash bugs; I try to catch them and take them outside. No reason to harm a spider if there isn\u2019t need, after all. And they\u2019re such good bugs, spiders are. I mean arachnids. And sorry, there I seem to have gone off on a tangent<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sam\u2019s mother always despaired over Sam ever finding someone who\u2019d be willing to put up with his neediness and silly little quirks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sam had never questioned how his parents interacted with him. He had only wished to be better, so that maybe one day they would… would like him more. But he hadn\u2019t doubted that he\u2019d deserved their displeasure. He had been a bothersome child, what with being so clumsy and gangly, and had grown into a disappointing adult who they knew would never have a standout job or bring home a person (wife) they approved of or… or any number of things. <\/p>\n

And he knew all of that because… <\/p>\n

Because they had told him so.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
