\"Role<\/a>Maggie Le thought being divorced was hard. But her son Kit living for college was worse. Now she had no reason to leave her house, except to get food.<\/p>\n

\u201cSecond: I have changed markedly since my twenties,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t want to wear bandage dresses and club all night .\u00a0.\u00a0.\u201d <\/p>\n

Kit made gagging noises. \u201cAck! Brain bleach!\u201d <\/p>\n

She ignored his outburst. \u201cI\u2019m not saying that other women can\u2019t wear whatever the hell they want and feel however they want to feel. My point is, at this age, I don\u2019t want to get negged by some fifty-year-old douchebro who thinks I care about his opinion, just because he wants to sleep with me. I don\u2019t want to wear makeup or shave my legs or buy matched underwear .\u00a0.\u00a0.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI regret everything,\u201d Kit groaned. \u201cYou\u2019re right. You\u2019re old. You don\u2019t need to date, and I never want to have this conversation ever again.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Aiden moved back to Fools Falls to help out when his father was dying. Now he feels responsible for his mother, and trapped in a place he never wanted to return to, with friends he has possibly outgrown.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I bet with some makeup and maybe some clothes that .\u00a0.\u00a0.\u201d Riley stopped, chuckling and shaking his head. \u201cOkay, I\u2019m lying. You can\u2019t even tell what her body looks like. She\u2019s swimming in that shit. How\u2019s a guy supposed to know what he\u2019s dealing with when a woman wears that?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI know, right?\u201d a new voice chimed in. <\/p>\n

Aiden and Riley spun to find Maggie standing in the kitchen doorway, obviously hearing them. <\/p>\n

\u201cFor Christ\u2019s sake, what was I thinking?\u201d she added, with an amused smile. \u201cIt\u2019s like I\u2019m doing it on purpose or something.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When Maggie is invited to join a gaming guild, she assume that Aiden is like the rest of the guys–just barely out of high school. Which leads to a serious misunderstanding about each other’s ages.<\/p>\n

\u201cKlara said some friend of hers wants to get involved with that crazy video game thing you do,\u201d she said. \u201cSounds like the lady\u2019s housebound or something. I don\u2019t know, I wasn\u2019t really listening.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In addition to a character who has deals with anxiety, there is also an ace character.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut that attraction? Doesn\u2019t happen that often.\u201d He let out a little jagged laugh. \u201cLike, really not often.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cSo .\u00a0.\u00a0.\u00a0,\u201d she drawled slowly, as if she was processing it. \u201cYou\u2019re .\u00a0.\u00a0. what, ace?\u201d <\/p>\n

This was not the reaction he was expecting. \u201cI\u2019m what now?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There were parts of this story that were unpleasantly familiar.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019ll listen to you. She likes you better, anyway.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cAiden, that\u2019s not fair.\u201d <\/p>\n

Aiden shrugged. \u201cI\u2019m not trying to be passive aggressive with that, or anything. It\u2019s certainly not your fault. I\u2019m just stating facts.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It didn\u2019t bother him as much as it used to that he wasn\u2019t her favorite. Although it did still bother him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I honestly thought this book would be harder to read than it was, but mostly I think I’m numb.<\/p>\n

I liked the ace rep, but since the character was demi, there ended up being a good deal of boinking.<\/p>\n

Which I skimmed and skipped.<\/p>\n
