\"Served<\/a>I thought I was in the mood for this. I was looking for stories with complicated grief, and this story has that.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou feel what you need to feel.\u201d What did I know about grief? I would be pissed, but I wasn\u2019t David. And if David\u2019s sadness made me feel smaller, I didn\u2019t think it was intentional. I\u2019d just have to work past it. Same as him. I wanted to trust in us both.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But everything just fell flat for me.<\/p>\n

Mostly because Robbie was unable to speak up for himself about anything.<\/p>\n

Articulating wants usually led to disappointment\u2014moves happened anyway, deployments dragged on, grad school requirements changed regardless, boyfriends kept right on lying to their families. My preferences seemed irrelevant and speaking up led to awkward conversations and magnified the hurt. Keeping pain private kept the wounds smaller, helped me buck up and move on.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, Craig was a mess and needed to get over his past, but it didn’t feel like either of them really did the work they needed to have a relationships.<\/p>\n
