The draw of this story remains Brunetti and Venice.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Brunetti followed him and, as he had the first time he was there, stood and gawked at the multistorey building and again tried to count the floors. As ever, he failed, defeated by the architect, who had granted more than one horizontal window to each floor.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Living in a city where everyone walks must be lovely, and strange.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Brunetti could not remember ever having passed him on the street.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>My favorite character in this story is the nun Brunetti meets in the course of his investigations.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2018She misses him,\u2019 Suor Benedetta said. \u2018Now that he\u2019s gone, she\u2019s always going over the wall, trying to find him.\u2019 She put out her hand, and Sara came back and took a lick at it. \u2018We miss him too,\u2019 she added. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Because he helped you?\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>The nun\u2019s face tightened with confusion. \u2018No. Because he was good.\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s passages like that that keep me reading the series, those human interactions that make you feel like you&#8217;re watching a friend rather than investigating a murder.<\/p>\n<p>Publisher: Atlantic Monthly Press<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rating: 7\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So Shall You Reap (2023) Donna Leon (Commissario Brunetti) This is the 32nd book in the Commissario Brunetti series.
