\"Hither,<\/a>Set in England in 1946.<\/p>\n

This story reminds me very much of an Agatha Christie, only with boinking. A combination of A Murder is Announced<\/em> and The Moving Finger<\/em>.<\/p>\n

None of the witnesses could suggest a possible motive, nor did any of them think Mrs. Hoggett had enemies. Leo had actually laughed out loud at that, drawing a sharp look from the other man in his train compartment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Even Edith Pickering and Cora Delacourt, who had lived with Mrs. Hoggett, didn\u2019t seem terribly moved, but then again they had a good deal of practice in losing people, having lived through the last time the world decided to kill off a generation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He ought to have developed a callus over whatever part of his heart was meant for mourning, but instead, it was like a wound that never quite healed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cDare I ask where Wendy got the sugar?\u201d Sommers eyed his half-eaten scone with a sort of guilty hunger. \u201cLast I heard, she used all her coupons on peppermint creams for the children at the vicarage.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s very resourceful,\u201d Miss Delacourt said dubiously.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
