Do Me a Favor<\/em><\/a> (2024) Cathy Yardley<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Do<\/a>Willa, still picking up the pieces after her husband’s long illness and death, moves out to the house she inherited from her great-aunt, in the hopes it will help her get back on her feet.<\/p>\n

What was it going to do to her? Her bank account was minuscule and her future uncertain, and while she\u2019d been diligently chipping away at the medical debt . . . let\u2019s face it, she was bailing a battleship with a teaspoon.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Hudson has spent his life on the island, never able to move away after unexpectedly becoming a father–and soon after that a single parent. He is easily able to find company for the night, but hasn’t dated since the twins started school.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can take care of it,\u201d she countered. \u201cI don\u2019t .\u00a0.\u00a0.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t tell you how many times I had to do this for the kids,\u201d he said, sidetracking her argument and shepherding her against the counter. \u201cI\u2019m a pro, basically.\u201d<\/p>\n

She looked a cross between confused and amused. \u201cPractically a doctor.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I really like Kathy Yardly’s stories. I love that she writes about middle-aged protagonists, about people who have lived life but are still making discoveries.<\/p>\n

Willa continued. Not in a superior way, but almost like someone who really geeked out about something and wanted you to somehow be just as enthusiastic as she was.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I just wish the boinking bits were easier to skip.<\/p>\n
