\n\"Subway<\/a>Detective Everett Larkin is finally healed from the injuries incurred during his previous case.<\/p>\n

He is also now living with the detective be became friends at that time, Ira Doyle, as he’s in the process of getting divorced and wasn’t capable to living on his own until he healed.<\/p>\n

In the beginning, Larkin had thought the growing distance and dissatisfaction between him and Noah had been the motivation to reach out for pharmaceutical aid. But now he was realizing he couldn\u2019t do this anymore\u2014couldn\u2019t live, couldn\u2019t work, without medication.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This new complication isn’t helping his mental state.<\/p>\n

But he’s called out to a case before his official return to work, when I clue with his name is found on a body.<\/p>\n

One of my favorite things about this series is the focus on death rituals.<\/p>\n

Justice was bitter when it came at the cost of someone\u2019s mother, someone\u2019s lover, someone\u2019s best friend, and rain or shine, Larkin would visit their place of rest after he\u2019d shelved the finished investigation and say their name, because you were only truly dead if there was no one left to mourn you.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Unfortunately, that focus is always why it took me to long to get back to this series. Everett’s past has darkness and violence that he is unable to escape, and the focus on death was something I wasn’t able to deal with for a couple years.<\/p>\n

But I finally felt about the come back to this series, and then second book is as good as I remember the first being (especially with the fact that Everett is no longer married).<\/p>\n

Especially as it’s clear just how unhealthy his marriage was.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not supposed to be speaking without a lawyer present.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI know.\u201d But then Noah took a breath that sounded shaky and unsure. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat was at your request, Noah.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As soon as I finished this, I immediately started the next book.<\/p>\n
