As Dennis McKiernan says in the beginning, there were some loose ends that he wanted to go back and tie up, or explain, or stories that were mentioned in passing that he wanted to mention in greater detail.<\/p>\n<p>For this collection he follows the same convention that he used in <i>Tales of Mithgar<\/i>, in that these are not really short stories per se, but rather a collection of tales woven together around the central theme of sitting around a fire telling stories. Some of the stories reach back into the history of Mithgar, others continue forward from the end of <i>Silver Wolf, Black Falcon<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>As nice as it was to revisit some of the characters, I think I prefer <i>Tales of Mithgar<\/i> as a short story collection, but it&#8217;s possible that this collection will grow on me over time.
