{"id":27093,"date":"2026-05-24T09:52:54","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T13:52:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/klishis.com\/reading\/?p=27093"},"modified":"2026-06-01T20:42:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T00:42:10","slug":"the-skeleton-stuffs-a-stocking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klishis.com\/reading\/archives\/27093","title":{"rendered":"The Skeleton Stuffs a Stocking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/123948\/9781635766431\"><em>The Skeleton Stuffs a Stocking<\/em><\/a> (2019) <a href=\"https:\/\/klishis.com\/Books\/authors\/kelner_toni.php\">Leigh Perry<\/a> (The Family Skeleton #6)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/123948\/9781635766431\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klishis.com\/reading\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/the-skeleton-stuffs-a-stocking.jpg?resize=194%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"The Skeleton Stuffs a Stocking\" width=\"194\" height=\"300\"  \/><\/a>This seems to be the last Skeleton mystery, although I did see a listing for an anthology of short stories.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia is back living at home, and working as an adjunct at the other university in town (the one her parents do not teach at).<\/p>\n<p>This time she is drawn into a mystery when Madison&#8217;s dog gets out of the house and is found wandering the neighborhood carrying a femur.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It was Friday night when we found the body, and I was so relieved about not being involved that I didn\u2019t even think about it over the weekend other than to check the Pennycross news site repeatedly to see if there was any new information.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It turns out that her good friend (and fellow adjunct) Charles may have known the woman.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I said, \u201cCharles, would you like a hug?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, Georgia, I believe that I would.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I like Charles quite a bit.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOne of the scabs slipped and fell. No doubt she\u2019ll try to blame the union.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>I hadn\u2019t realized I\u2019d moved closer to the man than was polite until Charles gently pulled me back and in a crisp voice said, \u201cThat would be Dr. Hortiz, a single mother who was recently diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The man turned toward us and stammered, \u201cWhat? I didn\u2019t realize\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Also, there is a strike.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Madison asked, \u201cWhat are they striking about? More money?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s more about healthcare and workload,\u201d Mom said. \u201cThe administration is trying to cut costs.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This places the adjuncts in an uncomfortable position, as they are temporary contract employees who are not seen by tenured faculty as &#8220;real&#8221; professors (and thus not part of the faculty union) but are at-will and can be summarily let go for any reason.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Georgia starts seeing her ex again (who apparently appeared in a prior book) but still doesn&#8217;t know how to deal with the Sid Situation.
