Camilla, her gaze also riveted to the paper, hesitated. The Sergeant, aware that amongst the various statements before Harding there was none in the least relevant to the question, nodded his head slowly in appreciation of this stratagem.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u2018Do you mind if I ask you something?\u2019 <\/p>\n

\u2018Not at all. What is it?\u2019 <\/p>\n

\u2018Well, do you really wear a god-forsaken badge under the lapel of your coat, and show it to anybody who wants to know who you are?\u2019 <\/p>\n
