Something like that.<\/p>\n<p>This was a reread of <em>Thud<\/em>, another Discworld novel about the Night Watch (or really, in this case, at this point it&#8217;s just The Watch).<\/p>\n<p>Commander Vimes has his hands full, what with Vetinari ordering a vampire onto the watch, fighting breaking out all over town on the anniversary of Koom Valley, and the most important ritual&#8211;reading &#8220;Where&#8217;s My Cow&#8221; every night to young Sam, at six o&#8217;clock sharp.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Vetinari waved a languid hand. &#8216;But full carts congesting the street, Vimes, is a sign of progress.&#8217; he declared.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Only in the figurative sense, sir,&#8217; said Vimes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>&#8216;All right,&#8217; said Vimes, in the ringing vacuum.  &#8216;Who&#8217;s going to be the first to tell me a huge whopper? Corporal Nobbs?&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>&#8216;Didn&#8217;t know what&#8217;d hit &#8217;em, eh?&#8217; said Vimes.<\/p>\n<p>Detrius looked mildly offended at this. &#8216;Oh no, sir,&#8217; he said, &#8216;I made sure they knew I hit &#8217;em.&#8217;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course, I&#8217;d forgotten about all the bits in Koom Valley somehow.
