Kilts & Kraken<\/a><\/em> (2012) Cindy Spencer Pape<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I must admit I’ve been enjoying this series of novellas. The lovely steampunk and strong female characters offset the boinking (which, there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just not my thing.)<\/p>\n

Dr. Geneva MacKay (Genny to her family) has worked very hard to establish herself as a rare female physician, so she doesn’t appreciate it when her father asks her to leave her practice to go to a remote area to see to an injured man who isn’t quite order business, but most likely is.<\/p>\n

Magnus, Baron Findlay, lives only to protect his people. So the kraken attacks that have seemingly come out of nowhere and are killing and injuring his people are a threat he must battle, placing himself at the fore of the threat.<\/p>\n

One thing I love about this series are the strong female characters who are living within the constraints of their society. I think the author manages the line between strong female characters and women who are still a part of their time (but they aren’t victims of their times.)<\/p>\n

So, I’ll definitely continue to by the novellas in this series as they come out.<\/p>\n
