American Gods: Tenth Anniversary Edition<\/a><\/em> (2001\/2011) Neil Gaiman<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I needed some comfort reading to distract me, so since I’d picked up the 10th anniversary edition of American Gods<\/em> for the kindle awhile ago, it won the comfort reading lottery.<\/p>\n

I’ve read American Gods<\/em> many times before, but not this version with the expanded material. Only a couple times do I think I noticed the added material. <\/p>\n

Since this was a kindle book, it was easy to mark things I wanted to remember for later. Here are some of them:<\/p>\n

“Hey,” said Shadow. “Huginn or Muninn, or whoever you are.”<\/p>\n

The bird turned, head tipped, suspiciously, on one side, and it stared at him with bright eyes.<\/p>\n

“Say ‘Nevermore,'” said Shadow.<\/p>\n

“Fuck you,” said the raven.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“You’re fucked up, mister. But you’re cool.”<\/p>\n

“I believe that’s what they call the human condition,” said Shadow.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Shadow’s telephone rang.<\/p>\n

“Yeah?” he said.<\/p>\n

“That’s no way to answer the phone,” growled Wednesday.<\/p>\n

“When I get my telephone connected I’ll answer it politely,” said Shadow.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

(I)t’s just the dark. You mustn’t be afraid of the dark.”<\/p>\n

“I’m not,” said Shadow, “I’m afraid of the people in the dark.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I actually marked many more passages, but those are some of the shorter passages. Of course, I wonder weather anyone who has not (at this point) read “American Gods” would do so based on those notes. But I don’t care, because I like those passages.
