When a woman&#8217;s body appears&#8211;badly beaten and disfigured&#8211;suspicion falls upon the man. But no one knows what has become of the man&#8211;and especially&#8211;the two children on the train platform.<\/p>\n<p>A very convoluted mystery, and no happy endings to be found.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s terribly sad, the way men&#8217;s minds minds broke, during the Great War, and the war that followed.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Severely claustrophobic, from a living grave, severely shell-shocked bruised and disoriented, he was allowed a few hours&#8217; rest and was then sent back to the front.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This series is much darker than his Bess Crawford series.
